Due to regulatory changes individuals wishing to obtain a Class 1 licence are required to complete Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT).

This grant is extremely popular, and KAP recommends that producers apply for funding immediately after the intake period opens.
This is a 121.5-hour course that contains theoretical and on-road training.
The Government of Manitoba currently offers funding for MELT through the Canada-Manitoba Job Grant. This employer-orientated grant covers up to 75% of the cost of MELT tuition. The grant has two intake periods that typically occur in April and August of each year.
