The agriculture sector continues to suffer a chronic labour shortage. These shortages are evident throughout the sector and impact positions such as on-farm labor, truck drivers, veterinarians and food processing.
KAP has formed a Labour Task Group consisting of participants from the Manitoba government, commodity groups, and other industry members who are playing a key role in addressing the current labour shortage
Labour shortages in one area of the food supply chain can have consequential impacts on other areas.
The agri-food and agriculture sector was identified as a key economic sector with “significant untapped potential” in the federal government’s Barton Report. To reach this potential, chronic labour shortages must be addressed and improved.
