Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada launched a right to repair consultation. The consultation follows Budget 2024’s announcement of developing a repairability policy.
The right to repair is about the ability for farmers to fix their own products or using a third party without going to a dealership. KAP fully supports measures that improve a farmer’s ability to repair his own equipment.
KAP provided comments to the department and highlighted the need for a broad right to repair policy that considers the needs of the agriculture sector.
Update
In November 2024, bills C-294 and C-244 received royal assent. These two bills dealt with interoperability and the right to repair, respectively.
