The Government of Manitoba announced and presented the Fuel Tax Amendment Act in November 2023. These amendments would temporarily reduce the tax levied on gasoline, diesel and natural gas for motor vehicles beginning on January 1, 2024.
KAP raised concerns to government regarding these amendments. Although the amendments permitted producers with farm plated vehicles to receive this temporary fuel exemption, it did not extend to marked gasoline. Under the Fuel Tax Act three cents a liter is applied to marked gasoline.
KAP along with Manitoba Pork Council, Canadian Propane Association and Manitoba Beef Producers wrote the Minister of Finance requesting amendments to Bill 3 which would exempt marked gasoline and propane from the fuel tax.
Update – December 2023
As a result of our advocacy efforts, the Government of Manitoba announced the inclusion of marked gasoline in Bill 3. This means farmers are exempt from paying 3 cents a liter on marked gasoline between January 1, 2024 – June 30, 2024.
