Every five years the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes provides an updated National Building Code (NBC) that can be adopted by the provincial government. The current Manitoba Building Code incorporates the 2010 version of the National Building Code.
The Minister of Labour and Immigration stated that the 2020 national code models will be adopted by January 1, 2024.
KAP has expressed opposition to the adoption of the 2020 national code models if amendments to the Manitoba Building Code are not provided.
Update – June 2023
The Department of Labour and Immigration announced proposed amendments to the Manitoba Building Code. These proposed amendments provide a few exemptions for large farm buildings.
Both Alberta and Saskatchewan exempt farm buildings from their provincial building codes. KAP continues to call on a full exemption for farm buildings to align with other western provinces.
KAP provided a letter to the department requesting additional amendments to the Manitoba Building Code.
