Since 1992 Canada has been a member of the Convention on Biological Diversity. During this time Canada has made commitments and developed strategies to achieve biological diversity goals. A few examples of this include the 2020 Biodiversity Goals and Targets and the 2006 Biodiversity Outcome Framework.
The federal government announced in 2023 its intention in developing a 2030 National Biodiversity Strategy.
Agriculture is a key component of a biodiversity strategy. KAP provided a response to Environment and Climate Change Canada highlighting the role farmers can play in this strategy along with challenges associated with some targets.
